Police and military round up suspects in Chapala raids

Jalisco Attorney General Gerardo Octavio Solís Gomez has announced the capture of seven suspected criminals during a major operation carried out in the Chapala area by state police and federal military forces on Wednesday, October 7.

pg1bStarting at around 11 a.m., a huge fleet of Mexican Army and National Guard troops and state officers swept down on neighborhoods in Riberas del Pilar and Ajijic, blocking off streets while executing raids related to the investigation of missing persons and other criminal cases.

The suspects were taken into custody in the vicinity of the west end of Ajijic’s Calle Zaragoza as the authorities searched for criminal safe houses where kidnapping victims might have been held in hiding. While no captives were found, the raid uncovered a cache of weapons, tactical gear and one vehicle reported as stolen in the state of Guanajuato, which were held as evidence of criminal activity.
