Robbery ring busted

Local law enforcement authorities have reportedly broken up a presumed gang of robbers that preyed on distributors of commercial merchandise working in the lakeshore region and elsewhere in the interior of Jalisco.

The recent detention of four suspects stems from investigations into an October 8 incident in which armed thieves assaulted personnel of a soft drinks delivery truck that had stopped off at the intersection of Calles Emiliano Zapata and Venustiano Carranza in Chapala’s Plaza de Toros neighborhood. The deliverymen were stripped of 5,000 pesos in cash and a cell phone.

During a preliminary hearing, an agent of the local public prosecutor’s office requested that the defendants be held in pre-trial custody for six months, conceded by the presiding judge.

The defendants are suspected of committing similar crimes in Jocotepec, Villa Corona and other municipalities, which remain under investigation.
