Cemetery closings extended

Following last week’s announcement of the closing of Chapala area cemeteries on Monday, November 2, the local government order has been amended to cover the extended three-day period of Day of the Dead commemorations starting Saturday, October 31, as dictated by state authorities.

In addition to banning access to burial grounds on the days when local inhabitants customarily gather there to adorn family gravesites and honor deceased loved ones, all of the community’s traditional Día de Muertos public events have been cancelled as a health safety measure.

Chapala’s San Francisco Parish will celebrate Mass in remembrance of the dearly departed throughout the day on November 2, with no more than 50 persons wearing face masks and observing social distancing admitted entry to the church.
