Environmentally conscious residents in the lakeside area are organizing a march for Sunday, December 13 to demonstrate their defense of the local mountain range that is under threat of excessive urban development.
The marchers will call for the protection of the watershed and natural creeks that feed Lake Chapala, and give voice to their opposition to the privatization of hillside hiking trails.
The demonstration will start at 9 a.m. from the west end of Avenida Hidalgo in the vicinity of the Hotel Montecarlo and nthe eighborhood branch of Farmacias Guadalajara, proceeding into the center of Chapala to the steps of City Hall. There will also be an automobile caravan departing from the Ajijic Pemex service station shortly after 8:15 a.m. Others may join in outside City Hall around 9:30 a.m.
Persons of all nationalities are welcome to show solidarity with the cause and express their sentiments on hand-made signs.
