Chapala sets 2021 budget

In its final 2020 session on Tuesday, December 17, the Chapala Cabildo (City Council) approved the municipality’s spending budget for the coming calendar year.

Although a detailed breakdown of how expenditures will be dispersed has yet to be released to the public, the sum of 348,273,500 pesos was based on the proposal issued earlier this month by the council’s Treasury Commission.

The budget has been forwarded to the state legislature for authorization as dictated by law.

In other financial news from Chapala City Hall, despite below normal revenue collection this year caused by the Covid-19 health crisis, with an advance on state funding provisions the municipal treasurer managed to pay out December’s aguinaldo (Christmas bonus) to all 820 government employees between December 9 and 11, more than a week ahead of the official deadline.  With that added to regular salaries, this month’s payroll totaled approximately 14 million pesos.
