A young man from Chapala who was heading to Ajijic on his motorcycle early on January 1 died when he crashed near the highway intersection with Calle Allen W. Lloyd in San Antonio Tlayacapan.
The accident happened at around 7 a.m. as 2021 dawned. There were apparently no witnesses to clarify whether the motorcyclist was struck by another vehicle or skidded and lost control of the two-wheeler. Acquaintances say he was wearing a helmet, but it failed to save his life as he was flung head first into the concrete barrier that separates the roadway and the ciclovía bicycle track.
Although a number of other highway accidents have occurred over the past four weeks, this one was the first and only fatal one registered since the holiday period started on December 12.
