No word on Chapala area vaccine rollout

With local seniors anxiously awaiting notification about when Covid-19 vaccinations will become available, it is no surprise that the subject came up at the latest meeting of the Chapala City Council.

In response to questions raised near the end of the Wednesday, February 24, session, Mayor Moisés Anaya stated that while the municipal government is in the best position to facilitate the local launch of the public vaccination campaign, state and federal health authorities have not yet provided any information about when or where the program will get started.

Councilman and local physician Julian Ortiz mentioned that, as staff employed at public health facilities are still in the process of getting their shots, private doctors are only starting to enlist in the vaccination program. He underscored the urgency of providing inoculations to physicians who attend infected patients.

The Chapala government is currently offering assistance to persons over age 60 who have not been able to register for vaccine applications. Councilor Edith González reported that personnel knowledgeable about the process are available for consultation at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia, next door to the Chapala Banamex branch, and at Delegation offices in Ajijic, San Antonio Tlayacapan, Santa Cruz de la Soledad and Atotonilquillo.
