Prospects for Chapala throwing its annual Carnaval festivities this year are dimming as the COVID pandemic rages on with heightened intensity.
According to this year’s calendar, the extended run of customary Mardi Gras parades, musical spectacles, bull-riding events and fair happenings would normally be scheduled through the latter half of February, culminating on Fat Tuesday, March 1.
The recently issued state mandate to temporarily suspend all traditional festivities and mass public events is previously set to end on February 12. Whether the ban will be lifted or extended at the juncture wholly depends upon prevailing conditions of the two-year health crisis.
