Independent taxi service drivers reportedly called off plans to stage more roadblock protests last weekend after representatives attended an emergency meeting with state government authorities on Friday, February 18, at Chapala City Hall.
Mayor Alejandro Aguirre acted as mediator between officials from the Jalisco Secretary General’s office, the state Department of Transport, and representatives for the cabbies who aired grievances of harassment and extortion by state police assigned to patrol the north shore region.
The drivers were advised to establish a formal internet platform for their services in order to operate legally in the area.
