St. Andrew’s priest delivers spiritual comfort to Ukrainian refugees

While most lakeside residents have followed the devastating Russian invasion of Ukraine through news media in the comfort of home, one amongst us embarked on a long journey to offer moral and spiritual support to thousands of people who have fled their homeland for safety and survival.

pg5aThat person is James Twyman, assistant priest at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar. His mission of mercy began in Portland, Oregon, with connecting flights through Denver and Frankfurt, to touch down in Kraków, Poland and make the last leg  overland to the Ukrainian border.

Over two days he witnessed thousands of weary refugees, mostly women and children, flood the border crossing to seek safe haven in their neighboring country. He joined with Poles, Europeans and citizens from other nations in welcoming displaced families who endured many days of icy weather to complete a desperate odyssey.
