“The Brainwashing of My Dad” is filmmaker Jen Senko’s documentary about her father’s transformation from a fun-loving, liberal Democrat to an angry devotee of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.

This is not slick, big-budget filmmaking, but an honest and personal account of a family’s experience of radical changes in thinking—prompted by saturation of right-wing media and “propaganda-type tactics” starting in the 1980s.

This film explores the roots of January 6, 2021, and today’s Radical Right and our increasingly divided United States—plus how we can fight back.

In fact, Senko tracks the rightward drift of the Republican Party since the 1960s. She argues that the media has been “the most powerful tool the radical right has used to accomplish their goals.”

She also delves into the spread of disinformation and conspiracy theories on dangerously addictive, right-wing social media platforms.

“The Brainwashing of My Dad,” (U.S., 2015) runs 91 minutes this Sunday at Cinemagic Theater in Plaza Bugambilias, Ajijic. Mask and proof of vaccination required. All Covid protocols followed.
