Chapala-Jocotepec Ciclovia nears completion

Promoting non-motorized mobility is a keystone of Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro’s administration’s transportation, so it’s natural that he takes special pride in the Chapala-Jocotepec Ciclovia that is now nearing completion.

pg8Work on the 24.3-kilometer cycling paved path set parallel to the north side of the highway started in 2019. During his Lakeside tour last week (see page 15), Alfaro vowed that the entire project will be finished sometime in May.

The two-lane Ciclovía has been built in three separate sections, each under contract with a different construction outfit.

The first segment, running eight kilometers from Chapala’s main intersection to Calle Tempisque in Ajijic, is already finished.

During his March 25 visit, Alfaro turned over that portion to Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre, whose administration will now assume responsibility for upkeep of the paved track, plantings, adjacent sidewalks and crosswalks and lighting fixtures. The expenses for this stage of the project totaled 56.49 million pesos ($US2.8 million).
