State Police relocating to new Chapala command post

Jalisco state police officers assigned to duty in Chapala are being relocated to a base of operations in the center of town after moving out of the makeshift barracks they have occupied in La Cristianía Park for the past several years.

pg11aThe change to the former Chapala police station at Calle Niños Héroes 65 is the result of an agreement forged between the municipal government and state security authorities that was put into effect on Friday, March 25.

The property at the corner of Calle Zaragoza has been leased by the municipality since 1998, but has stood empty since the local police force moved into new headquarters located at the north end of the city across the street from the Soriana supermarket parking lot. The municipal Traffic Department recently moved its office into a small wing of the building, with an entrance on Zaragoza. The state police will have use of the rest of the two-story facility for office space, living quarters and inside parking for patrol vehicles.
