As illegal appropriation of federal land located along Lake Chapala’s shoreline becomes more prevalent with the dry season descent of its waters, the self-titled Colectivo Pueblos Unidos de la Ribera is picking up where it left off six months ago in tearing down fences that obstruct free passage through north shore beach areas.
The activist group is spurred by the failure of the Jalisco branch of the National Water Commission to exercise its authority in controlling abuses of federal law concerning the use and protection of national property bordering the lake.
