Ajijic to host April 22-23 Earth Day festival

Taking good care of planet Earth, understanding local environmental issues and learning how to get involved with activist groups are central themes that will be addressed at the Día de la Tierra Axixic festival programed for April 22 through 24.

pg24bActivities scheduled to take place at the Centro Cultural Ajijic and adjacent plaza will include conferences, exhibitions and cultural events tied into the annual international commemoration of Earth Day.

The festival agenda coordinated by Conexión Ambiental begins Friday, April 22, 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony led by Ajijic artist Antonio López Vega and the inauguration of an art exhibit titled “Tierra Madre.” At 6 p.m. Manuel Villagomez will present a history of protecting Lake Chapala. Niños Raperos de San Sebastián follow with a youth rap performance at 7 p.m. A screening of the film “Michi Chihualli” by La Cochera Cultural, 7:30 p.m. wraps up Day One.
