Mariachi galas coming to Lakeside next month

With the renowned International Mariachi Festival going live again after the virtual editions of the past two years, the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) has announced that Chapala and Jocotepec are among seven municipalities outside the metro area selected to host gala concerts this year.

pg15aThe full program for the 29th annual mariachi festival (full name: Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y la Charrería) will run from August 25 through September 4, with dozens of special events on the calendar.

Guest mariachi troupes are scheduled to perform in Chapala on Friday, August 26, while the Jocotepec concert is set for Monday, July 29. Jocotepec will preview the mariachi show on August 27 and 28 with Expo Berry, featuring activities to showcase the municipality’s burgeoning berry production industry.

Other municipalities listed on the festival’s concert extension calendar are Puerto Vallarta, Tequila, Mazamitla, Tapalpa and Cocula, the so-called cradle of the mariachi genre. Details on the times and locations for these concerts will be reported as soon as available.

Mariachi musicians from Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, the United States, Dominican Republic and Israel are slated to participate in the 2022 Encuentro.
