Jocotepec to host national cycling championship

Jocotepec has been selected as the host venue for a three-day series of national championship cycling races organized under the auspices of the Federación Nacional de Ciclismo (FMC).

pg15bThe event will include contests for up to 600 participants enrolled in men’s and women’s divisions, broken down further into various adult age categories, as well as three different youth age groups. A purse of 400,000 pesos in cash prizes is up for grabs.

The racing schedule starts on Thursday, June 23, with the Carrera Contrarreloj, individual contests for clocking the best time at varied distances along on a highway route mapped out on the toll road (autopista) between Acatlán de Juárez and Atoyac. Starting times will be staggered for each division and age category, beginning 10 a.m.

Carreras de Ruta, following a 10.5-kilometer circuit in Jocotepec, will be spread out over Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25, starting at 8 a.m. Competitors will have to complete a specified number of three to 18 laps before crossing the finish line, with full distances ranging from 31.5 to 189 kilometers according to each age and gender classification.
