Police track down homicide suspect

A local man has been captured on suspicion of murder following a domestic dispute that took place at the home of his in-laws in Chapala’a Barrio del Tecolote.

The suspect identified as Miguel “N” is accused of stabbing to death his father-in law shortly after midnight Saturday, June 18. The lethal attack occurred while the man was involved in a heated argument with his spouse during which he reportedly struck her and the couple’s four-year-old daughter. He turned on the woman’s father when he came to her defense.

According to a press release issued by the Chapala government, the assailant grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his father-in-law three times. The murder victim was dead by the time medical personnel arrived to attend to his wounds.

Immediately following the assault, the suspect fled the crime scene with the young child in tow.  Municipal police and state crime investigators promptly mounted a search, locating the alleged killer around 11:30 a.m. in the rural area above the Libramiento bypass known as El Jagüey, where he was taken into custody. He was found in the company of his daughter who was rescued unharmed by the authorities and returned to her family.
