Mezcala women graduate from Hairdressing course

Volunteers at the Community Development Center put on a graduation party Tuesday, September 27 honoring the group of local women who completed a 10-month course in hairdressing.

The training program taught by Yolanda Martínez, proprietress of Yoly’s Unisex Salon, covered instruction on cutting and styling methods, hygiene and sanitation protocols and guidance on business management and appropriate attire for working in a beauty salon setting. Each of the ladies demonstrated acquired skills on hairdressing “clients” brought in for the occasion, before proudly receiving their diplomas. They wore outfits in a matching  black-and-white color scheme and hand-made graduation caps. All plan to continue training and collaborate in opening a beauty shop on a work-share basis that will allow them to pay the operating costs and earn income. Donations of equipment and supplies they will need would be greatly appreciated. Contact Kari Higgins at This email address is being protected from spambots.
