Expat to be tried for homicide

A foreign resident of Ajijic accused of shooting his Mexican brother-in-law during a domestic dispute on the night of October 7 will face trial on a charge of aggravated homicide.

According to a press release issued by the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office this week, the defendant identified as Joseph Angelo A. will remain in pre-trial custody for a maximum of one year, as a precautionary measure imposed at the request of the District V Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Witnesses say that the victim, a well-known Ajijic horseman, was shot dead during a heated argument concerning the foreigner’s physical abuse of his spouse, the victim’s younger sister.

Chapala police called to the scene on Calle Álvaro Obregon found the victim already dead, and proceeded to detain the suspect who they turned over state authorities along with the presumed murder weapon. Subsequent investigation provided sufficient evidence for the judge’s decision to take the case to trial.
