In conjunction with his attendance at the official opening of the Centro Universitario Chapala on January 24 (see story page 3), Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG) Rector Ricardo Villanueva formalized a partnership agreement with the Lake Chapala Society to jointly develop academic and research projects that contribute to the development of the lakeshore region.
Villanueva thanked the LCS “for all they have done in Chapala to improve the lives of its inhabitants, but, above all, for what they will do together with our new university center.”
The agreement will allow LCS to place UdeG students as on-site assistants to fulfill their social service requirements, as well as draw on university personnel to organize conferences and other activities of interest to the public.
Signing on behalf of LCS was board vice-president Larry Barnhardt. Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre, along with other LCS and university representatives, were present to witness the inking of the pact.
