Weekly Worship - February 04, 2023

Lake Chapala Baptists

Sermon: “Continue in your Salvation,” from Philippians 2:13: For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Have you ever heard a Bible teacher say something like, “Just let go and let God?” Have you figured out yet that it might not be quite simple?

“Most of our Christian lives are not filled with effortless experiences,” Pastor Linton told his congregation last Sunday. “Though God is absolutely sovereign in terms of saving and sanctifying us, we are not to be passive bystanders; we are to play an active part in the critical process of spiritual maturation. We are to resolve to work out the practical applications of God’s word and will, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit that has taken up residence within us.

“Brothers and sisters, we are saved into a church body, and within that body, in full unity of spirit, we work out our salvation and sanctification together. The heart of that is, we’ve got to find a way to live together, in spite of our many differences.

“On the narrow road to corporate and personal sanctification, let us follow Christ’s pristine example of self-denying love. God saves us to change us! Repent. Believe. Be saved. And then work diligently with the Holy Spirit to be more like your savior, your refuge, Jesus Christ.”

Lakeside Presbyterian

This Sunday, February 5, Pastor Wayne will talk about: The book of Romans that inspired the Protestant Reformation.

It is certainly one of the most influential books in the Bible. Some months ago we talked about Martin Luther. He did everything possible to assure that he was truly going to heaven. He became a monk, got a doctoral degree in theology, and spent time fasting and praying. Despite all this he was still terrified. But while teaching on the book of Romans he began to think about the verse, “The just shall live by faith.” Eventually he understood. Salvation does not come by our efforts; it is a gift that comes by faith in Christ alone. Luther’s revelation helped to bring about the Protestant Reformation.
The book was written by the Apostle Paul to the Christian community in Rome. Likely written in the mid-50s AD, it discusses themes of our faith such as justification by faith, the nature of sin, and the relationship between God and humanity.

Important Notice: Lakeside Presbyterian Church will hold its Annual General Meeting after the 9:30 a.m. service February 5. There will be brief reports about what happened with our various ministries during 2022, as well as our plans for 2023. Members will vote on the 2023 budget and our slate of new deacons and elders. All are welcome.

Abundant Life Church

Worthy is the lamb. This is something that the church sings, is proclaimed in heaven and a part of the belief system of many around the world but what does it mean? Knowing that the Lamb of God is worthy is just the beginning. This declaration implies certain rights to the one who is deemed worthy and certain responses from those who declare Him worthy. Come this Sunday, February 5, as we grow in our understanding of what the One declared worthy is doing and what the obligations are for those who declare Him worthy .

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico. Bible study in English is held at 11 a.m. each Wednesday with Spanish language Bible studies on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
