Anita Torres and other members of the Poco a Poco San Pedro steering committee threw an appreciation dessert party to recognize volunteers who support multiple community projects in San Pedro Itzicán, Mezcala and surrounding villages.
The event was held Thursday, February 9 at El Huerto Café in Riberas del Pilar, where many of the 60-odd guests gathered earlier for a no-host lunch.
Project team leaders provided brief progress reports on their respective activities that include jewelry making and sewing programs, ESL classes, attention to special needs children, the Kids’ Kitchen and CreSer food production projects and support for kidney disease patients. Several of the projects operate in partnership with FoodBank Lakeside, Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club, Lissa’s Legacy and staff from Guadalajara’s TEC de Monterey.
The reception capped off with a 50/50 raffle drawing that raised 2,300 pesos for Poco a Poco and service of tasty dessert treats for the crowd.
