A Chapala work crew made a startling and mysterious discovery early Monday, March 20 while initiating a cleanup of the narrow beach area in front of the Malecón prior to the upcoming Easter holiday tourist season.
As a backhoe was digging up the roots of a dead palm tree, the workmen came across a small rectangular wooden box mixed up in the debris. A brass plaque attached to one side bore the name Cody Morgan Summers and the dates 1937-2011. Although the box was empty, they were certain it was an urn used to contain cremated human remains. Local authorities circulated a photo of the unusual finding in hopes of locating the deceased man’s relatives.
