A senior foreign resident of Ajijic apparently suffered sudden cardiac while driving a Honda SUV through town on Monday, November 13.
The unfortunate incident occurred on the highway between the cross streets of Marcos Castellanos and Galeana.
Upon losing consciousness, the driver rear-ended a pickup truck, causing only minor damages to both vehicles.
Traffic was backed up and detoured through interior streets for several hours before a forensic team arrived on the scene to recover the body for transfer to the morgue where an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
Local authorities identified the deceased as a U.S. citizen who resided in the La Huerta housing complex on the west side of Ajijic. He was also known as a standing member of Chapala’s American Legion Post 7.
