Archaeologist to give lecture on Huichol culture

Noted archeologist Dr. Peter Jiménez Betts, Ph.D. will present a lecture on the Wixárika/Huichol culture Friday February 2, 11:30 a.m. at the Old Billy Moon estate in West Ajijic.

Jiménez has been a research professor at Centro INAH Zacatecas since 1991. He studied anthropology, specializing in archaeology, at the Universidad de Las Americas in Puebla, and his doctorate is in archaeology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Jiménez is author of “The Mesoamerican World System, 200–1200 CE, A Comparative Approach Analysis of West Mexico,” published by Cambridge University Press.

Also in attendance will be Teo Lopez, leader of the Wixárika community at Lakeside. Lopez will be happy to answer questions.  His art will also be on display and for sale.

This unique lecture is being sponsored by Senderos de Mexico, Poco A Poco San Pedro Itzican, D’Shanti restaurant and Diane Pearl Gallery. A free drink with every meal (margarita/beer/wine) is being offered to the guests at D’Shanti after the presentation. D’Shanti is located directly across from the Old Billy Moon estate.

A suggested donation of 100 pesos per person is being asked at the event. There will be information tables as well. There is seating for 40 people.
