Renovated main drag already under repair

Just as it looked like there was a light at the end of the tunnel in the prolonged renovation of Chapala’a main avenue, work crews suddenly appeared last weekend to begin ripping up sections of the street at the south end where the project begins.

Responding to raised eyebrows over the patchwork, Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre posted a video to explain that a construction outfit contracted by the state government’s Department of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) was making repairs to meet its stipulated quality guarantees.

Meanwhile, the segment of Avenida Madero northbound between the Arroyo San Marcos bridge and Avenida Pepe Guizar was completed and reopened to through traffic on February 20.

Barring unexpected delays for additional adjustments, SIOP officials expect to wrap up the project by March 15.
