The Lake Chapala community has a new performing group that is generating much enthusiasm among local music lovers.
Nova Lux is a chamber choir branched off from the newly formed Las Voces del Lago Community Chorus. Under the direction of Ken Turner, the choir comprises an auditioned 17-voice ensemble. Friday, August 23, 3 p.m., the choir will present a concert of Spanish Renaissance music, as well as other choral treasures, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Riberas de Pilar. Admission is 300 pesos. Featured in this concert are works by Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611), Francisco Guerrero (1528-1599) and Juan del Encina (1468-1529). The choir will also present several contemporary choral works by Norwegian composers Ola Gjeilo and Kim André Arnesen. The concert will include lyrics in Spanish as well as English. Translations will be provided.
