Jalisco authorities are investigating two separate incidents in which dead bodies washed up on Lake Chapala shores last weekend.
The first corpse, a heavyset, light-skinned male approximately 50 years old and 1.70 meters tall, was found face down in shallow water early Friday, May 15, near Calle Revolución in Ajijic. He wore shorts, a T-shirt and black tennis shoes, with injuries to his nose, forehead and both knees. No identification was found.
The second body was discovered Saturday, May 16, around 8:50 a.m., floating face down at La Milagrosa Park on Avenida Hidalgo at Chapala’s western edge. Firefighters used a ladder and rope basket to retrieve the man, who wore a blue shirt, jeans and a brown belt.
An iPhone and keys to a 2025 gray Mazda CX30 found in his pocket led investigators to a nearby car containing a wallet identifying the deceased as Salvador “N”, a 34-year-old Guadalajara resident. He apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Both cases remain under investigation pending autopsy reports from the Jalisco Forensic Institute.
