French actress visits jailed kidnapper; movie in the works?

French actress and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard may be interested in bringing the story of jailed compatriot Florence Cassez to the big screen, reports in Mexico suggest.

Despite protesting her innocence, Cassez is serving 60 years in prison for kidnapping. The case has become a cause celebre in France, with President Nicolas Sarkosy lending his full support to Cassez and even disrupting Mexican-French relations in the process.

The Mexican Supreme Court recently rejected a motion to free Cassez due to a host of anomalies in the investigation but have agreed to continue reviewing the case.

According to news reports, Cotillard met with Cassez in her Mexico City prison for around three hours on April 7.  She had flown in from Los Angeles on a scheduled flight earlier in the day.

Mexico City daily Reforma quoted an unnamed source who said Cotillard had been impressed by the book “A la Sombra de Mi Vida,” in which Cassez pleads her innocence and relates her experiences in the six years since her arrest in December 2005.
