Despite its negative portrayal in the media, Mexico keeps attracting more and more foreign visitors. The Ministry of Tourism revealed this week that 4,098,750 tourists visited Mexico from January to April this year, 5.3 percent more than in the same period in 2011. Over half of these tourists came from the United States, with the next highest figures coming from Canada, Argentina and the United Kingdom. Up 19.4 percent on last year, Puerto Vallarta enjoyed the biggest rise in hotel occupancy. Guadalajara experienced an increase of 11.4 percent, almost as much as the 11.6 percent rise in Cancun.
