US intern found dead in capital

An U.S. intern working at the Associated Press news agency in Mexico City has been found dead in an apartment building near where he was living in the Condesa neighborhood.

The body of Armando Montano, 22, from Colorado Springs, was discovered at the bottom of an elevator shaft last weekend.

Montano had been in Mexico for less than a month.  A graduate in Spanish from Grinnell College, he had already worked as an intern at the New  York Times and was planning to take a masters degree in journalism.

According to www.pinknews.co.uk, Montano was a member of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Journalists. He was a Newhouse Scholar and member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, said the website. It is not clear whether Montano was working on a story at the time of his death.  Investigations into his death are ongoing.
