Seven of ten teachers fail national exam

70 percent of the 134,000 pre-school, primary and secondary school teachers that sat for the National Test for Abilities, Knowledge and Teaching Competency earlier this month scored less than 60 out of 100 points.

But according to the Federal Department of Education (SEP), all but about 5,000 of the teachers were acceptable to bid for one of the 18,000 new positions opening up next month.

Some 89,000 teachers who scored between 31 and 55 points were included with the 38,000 who scored above 66 points as acceptable. The SEP applied 24 types of tests depending on the available teaching jobs opening up.

Only 309 teachers nationwide answered 100 percent of the text correctly. Of the 14,444 teachers that took the test in Jalisco, 424 received a lower than acceptable score.
