Envoy stresses ‘common’ US-Mexico culture, values

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Anthony Wayne urged steps towards even greater economic integration during his participation in the 11th edition of the Mexican Business Summit held at Expo Guadalajara this week.

“The U.S.-Mexico relationship is grounded in a common border, a common culture, common values, common dreams and common potential,” he said, while taking part in a panel on Mexico-U.S. relations entitled “Closing the Gap Towards a Real Partnership.”

Said Wayne: “The recent visit of Vice President Biden was a continuation of the emphasis that President Obama and his administration place on Mexico and the region.  And, during that visit, you saw the launch of the High Level Economic Dialogue [HLED], an annual Cabinet level meeting to bring together leaders from the public and private sectors to advance strategic economic and commercial priorities central to promoting mutual economic growth, job creation, and global competitiveness.”

Wayne attended President Enrique Peña Nieto’s address and met with Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval, praising the priority placed on education and innovation through the establishment of the first state-level Secretaria de Innovación, Ciencia y Tecnología in the nation.

The Mexican Business Summit is modeled on the World Economic Forum and brings together high-ranking figures from government, business, the academic sector and think tanks.
