Authorities around the country remind visitors and citizens that criminals tend to step up their activities at this time of year. Vacationers who leave their homes unattended for a week are leaving a perfect target for thieves, so check all your doors and windows and carefully guard valuables before leaving home. Pickpocket teams will be out in force in all public areas, be wary of techniques used to distract a victim while a second person lifts the wallet.
