Stop sending weapons to Mexico to be used on our people, teachers tell United States

Three days after clashes between teachers and police in Oaxaca claimed the lives of eight people, around 30 teachers affiliated to the Frente Magisterial de Jalisco staged a small protest outside Guadalajara’s U.S. Consulate Wednesday to demand that the United States stop supplying arms to the Mexican government.

“We hold the U.S. government responsible for the massacres and genocide taking place in the south of Mexico by the fascist government of Enrique Peña Nieto,” the group’s legal representative Francisco Manuel Aréval told reporters.

“Why? Because they have been supplying the Mexican government with the machinery of war: helicopters, ammunition, automatic weapons to use against our people.”

The teachers held up placards showing a half-burned U.S. flag and presented Consulate representatives with a signed document stating their demands.
