Poinsettia tapestry sets record

A floral park in the state of Morelos has set a new Guinness record for the “world’s largest floral tapestry,” comprised of 127,000 poinsettia plants.

The display covers of 14,200 square meters and uses 13 varieties of poinsettia, including  “hot pink,” “prestige red,” “Orange spice”and “polar bear.” All the plants were cultivated in the southern Mexican state.

The tapestry resembles a giant flower and was designed by Óscar Jiménez De León, director of the Jardines de México floral park, the largest of its kind in Mexico. Some 600 volunteers collaborated in creating the floral display.

The previous world record was set in August of this year in Kiev, Ukraine.

Morelos produces around one-third of all poinsettias sold in Mexico during the winter holiday season.

Jardines de México is located at kilometer 129 of the Autopista Mexico-Acapulco, near the small town of Tehiuxtla, about 30 kilometers south of Cuernavaca.
