Canada’s most iconic cafe heading south to Mexico

Tim Hortons, Canada’s largest quick service restaurant chain famed for its coffee and donuts, is preparing to open its first cafes in Mexico.

The company was founded in 1964 by Miles “Tim” Horton, a professional ice hockey player who wanted to create cafes where everyone would feel at home.

Tim Hortons has become an integral part of Canadian culture, maintaining a presence in every city and small town across the country, totaling more than 3,800 outlets.  It operates 680 outlets in the United States, as well as others in several Middle Eastern nations and the Philippines. The company recently announced plans to open its first European branch in Glasgow, Scotland.

Although taken over by Burger King in 2014, the two companies agreed to retain separate operations and not combine locations.
