Mexico’s voting costs skyrocket

Each of the 11.88 million votes cast during the June 4 elections in Nayarit, Coahuila, Estado de Mexico and Veracruz cost at least 446 pesos, according to national election officials.

The total cost for public finance was 4.948 billion pesos. Another 4.222 billion pesos were spent on local public election organizations and 726 million pesos were spent by the Federal Election Institute on local elections. This amount, up 300 percent from the 2012 elections, doesn’t even include private funds or goods given to candidates.
