In this country, four different firms are producing intelligent electricity meters, which not only conform to the standards of the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), but also insure you are getting efficient use of your juice, and reduce electricity loss or theft.
The new meters are connected 24-hours-a-day to the CFE’s control and billing systems and supposedly evade electricity theft by 100 percent. The CFE has tried some 108,000 of the new meters last year, but as they cost about five times more than the conventional meters, they prefer to continue purchasing IUSA’s conventional watthorimetros.
