English teachers get help

Mexico’s teacher training colleges, known as “Normales,” are to be transformed as of 2018 with a major focus placed on creating bilingual teachers.

A program, to be known as “México en Inglés,” will be introduced across the nation and is part of Mexico’s new educational model for the 21st century. The program also includes education in English in all primary schools, as is the practice in most European nations.

A test carried out in 2016 demonstrated that around half of all English teachers at Mexican public schools had “insufficient” knowledge of the language.
