The first batch of Mexican firefighters – a large proportion of them from the state of Jalisco – have returned home from British Columbia, Canada after a month-long stint helping to extinguish forest fires in the province.
Among the 251 Mexicans participating in the effort is Consuelo Díaz (right), the first female firefighter from this country ever sent on a mission to a foreign country.
The firefighters even got a shout out on Twitter from Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland: “Thank you, Mexico, for the huge support provided to firefighting efforts in BC!”
