The U.S. State Department warned American citizens against travel to Mexico’s Playa del Carmen, just one week after several incidents in the area.
Last month, a bomb exploded on a ferry running between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel and an unexploded device was found on another ferry a week later.
A message posted to the U.S. embassy’s website noted that it had received “information about a security threat in Playa del Carmen,” and that it is barring government employees from traveling to the resort town and closing its consular agency there.
