Mexican migrants in the money

Thanks to the buoyant U.S. economy and labor market, Mexican migrants are earning more money and sending more of it back home to relatives.

According to Banxico, Mexico’s central bank, remittances grew 10.3 percent in July of this year – the 28th consecutive month of recorded increases. From January through July, remittances to Mexico totaled $US19.11 billion, an increase of 11.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

The economic uptick in the United States not only translates into greater job opportunities for Americans, but also for Mexican migrants and undocumented workers, analysts say.
