10-month wait for new US ambassador set to end?

President Donald Trump will nominate a prominent Washington lawyer as the next U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

Christopher Landau worked for two conservative Supreme Court judges before becoming a high-profile appellate attorney.  He has never worked as a diplomat but studied Latin America at Harvard and speaks Spanish.

The United States has been without an ambassador in Mexico since the departure of career diplomat Roberta Jacobson in May of last year.

The U.S. Senate must ratify the nomination.
