IMSS to receive cash boost

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has budgeted an additional 40 billion pesos for the Instituto Mexicano de Seguro Social (IMSS).

This will ensure that all IMSS hospitals have sufficient medicines, doctors and nurses, he said.  Specifically, funds will be used to hire more staff for rural medical clinics, with bonuses offered to professionals who accept posts outside major towns and cities. The president warned unions that the government will not tolerate these jobs going to family members and people they recommend.

In addition, Lopez Obrador promised to give permanent positions to more than 80,000 IMSS workers who currently lack job security. He also announced that contracts to three distribution companies charged with providing medical supplies to the IMSS have been cancelled.
