Mexico vows it is ready for all coronavirus scenarios

Mexico does not fall into the category of nations that a World Health Organization expert recently warned are “simply not ready’ to contain a coronavirus pandemic, a federal official said.

for no. 1As yet, no cases have been confirmed in Mexico, although several potential carriers of the virus – now renamed Covid-19 – were under investigation at press time.

According to Health Ministry Sub-secretary Hugo López-Gatell, emergency plans are in place should the threat of a pandemic emerge, with specific strategies designed for outbreaks in either a specific location, regional environment or on a national scale.

Chief among the strategies is a program of  permanent vigilance by health workers – many of whom are undertaking special training – to detect, isolate and monitor infected people, as well as the rapid distribution of diagnostic testing equipment to all parts of the country, López-Gatell said.
