Cancun to get tourism council seal of approval

Cancun will be the first beach destination on the American continent to receive the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Security Seal, a distinction awarded to tourist destinations and companies that adopt its standards to guarantee the hygiene of establishments and protect the health of travelers.

The seal will be granted once the destinations and the eligible companies adopt and fully comply with the standardized protocols of hygiene, sanitation and physical distance issued by the WTTC to combat Covid-19.

The president and CEO of the WTTC is Gloria Guevara Manzo, Mexico’s minister of tourism during the presidency of Felipe Calderon. “We are very excited, since the first destinations to receive the seal will be Saudi Arabia – which chairs the G20 tourism group – Barcelona, Cancun, Portugal and Seville,” she said. “They are popular world-class destinations that have endorsed the seal by implementing the protocols. For the first time, the global private sector has joined the safe travel protocols, which will restore the confidence of tourists.”
