Discount weekend extended

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the tenth edition of El Buen Fin, Mexico’s shopping blitz similar to Black Friday, will take place next month.

pg10bUsually held over four days, this year’s sale has been extended to 12 days, scheduled from Monday, November 9 to Friday, November 20.

First implemented with backing from the federal government in 2010, Buen Fin sees thousands of businesses and services offer discounts of between 10 to 50 percent.

More than 60,000 businesses signed up to offer Buen Fin discounts in last year’s edition. More than 10,000 businesses and services usually participate in the state of Jalisco, although this year’s total is unclear due to the Covid-19 restrictions that will be in place for the next two weeks.

Organizers of Buen Fin 2020 expect to see a significant uptick in online sales this year.

In previous years, the Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has set up booths in major malls to hear complaints of abuses from the public. They also warn that criminals take advantage of Buen Fin, with reports of card cloning spiking throughout the duration of the sale.
