Border restrictions extended, while US tourists flood into Mexico by air

The Covid-19 travel restrictions in place at the U.S. land borders with Mexico and Canada are being extended for another month.

pg3b“Due to the development of the spread of Covid-19 and because various states are in the orange (threat level), Mexico proposed to the United States the extension, for one more month, of the restrictions on non-essential land traffic at its common border,” the Mexican Foreign Ministry said Monday.

“We’ll continue to do whatever is necessary to keep Canadians safe,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

The measures, which prohibit all non-essential border crossings, will remain in effect until February 21. They were first imposed in March of last year and have been renewed on a month-by-month basis ever since.
